For my masters thesis research I worked with Amsterdam Smart City. I did research on a community project for making a neighbourhood in Amsterdam more sustainable. In this project called 'Slim Wonen in Gaasperdam' citizens, companies and the municipality worked together. I did research on and made recommendations for working in such complicated networks of actors by setting up a framework with steps to take in similar future projects.
Problem
- How can Amsterdam Smart City learn from experimental, locally-based projects in order to expand them to the rest of the city?
- How can projects based on the collaboration between companies, citizens and the municipality be more effective?
Insights
- There is no method as to gather knowledge from experimental projects in order to learn from it and to apply it in the future
- In the case of 'Slim Wonen in Gaasperdam', no desired outcome was announced in the beginning. This made it hard to measure progress, as well as building a trusting relationship between the participants
